Manicure Monday - Chevron/Ikat/Triangle Nails

Thanks for visiting! Ok, so for my first manicure post I decided to do something fairly simple. These are chevron, ikat, or triangle nails (so many names, yet so simple to do!) They can be done with any colors as long as they are pretty contrasting. I used Confetti's "Wedding White," Orly's "Basket Case," and Milani's "Violet Dash." Two of the colors should be ones that do not need tons of coats (you'll see why later). And of course, use a clear topcoat and basecoat!

Step 1: Paint a base coat.

Step 2: Tape the top third of the nail with the pointy part of the tape facing your body.

Step 3: Paint the part of the nail not covered by tape with next color. Here is where it is essential to use a color that pretty much only needs one coat, because you have to remove the tape from the nail fairly quickly or else when you take the tape off, it will rip up the polish with it. However, using a white polish underneath also makes multiple coats less necessary, so you should be fine! Timing can be tricky because you have to remove the tape pretty quickly, but the polish has to settle just enough the it will not run when the tape comes off (reference my messed up pointer finger in the bottom picture!)

Step 4: Repeat steps 2 & 3 with another color, this time covering the top two thirds of the nail.

Of course, if you want to leave it at just two colors that looks super cool as well. You can also make the triangles going other ways on the nail - have fun with it! I will most definitely be doing more manicures using tape - you can do some amazing things with it! Thanks so much for visiting and make sure to send any pictures of your attempts at chevron/ikat/triangle nails!
